Happy Camper

I am a happy camper.

Today, I cast my oldest child off on her own into the big, bad world of sleepaway camp.

Yesterday, I watched my youngest child run a full court weave.

Tomorrow, I will work from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM, without interruption.

I am a happy camper.

Today, the children’s standardized test results were the highest they can be.

Yesterday, the four of us slept in my daughter’s bedroom to celebrate one last night of togetherness.

Tomorrow, my oldest child will wake up in a bunk in the woods, with a newly found freedom to explore any activity her heart desires.

I am a happy camper.

Today, my boy hit a pop fly into the infield, singled, fielded right, center, stole third base.

Yesterday, my daughter spontaneously climbed into my lap for snuggles.

Tomorrow, playing for “Maryland” in the “ACC,” my boy will try to improve his team’s record by possibly sinking some clutch free throws.

I am a happy camper.

Before basketball this morning, they told the kids that the saying of the day was:

“It’s the name on the front of the jersey that matters most, not the one on the back.”

Or, maybe, it’s the slogan on the front of the T-shirt.
