Passer le flambeau

Albert Lamorisse’s film Le Ballon Rouge ends with hundreds of colorful balloons descending and encircling a little boy despondent over the popping of his red balloon by a smothering band of nasty boys, and then ultimately lifting and carrying him up in the air and over the city of Paris into a world of excitement and intrigue.

That scene perfectly describes how it felt when I learned a new baby joined our extended family yesterday.
